Life Energy

The concept of a Life Energy is one of the oldest ideas explored through the ways of knowing we call religion and science. It can be traced back to the earliest written records of our civilization.

The diverse physical and metaphysical descriptions of the primordial Life Energy have been considered irreconcilable for millennia. But, in recent decades, many thinkers in science and religion have been moving toward the view that the words "God" and "Life Energy" are describing the same thing—the fundamental natural law or principle underlying reality. Today, the concept of Life Energy is once more playing an important role in science, medicine and healing. This oldest of truths is re-emerging in a new form and is a central aspect of the new worldview that is developing.

The evidence being compiled about Life Energy suggests that all living things resonate and interact with one another's energy fields, and with planetary and cosmic energy fields. It is becoming clear that mind, thought, sensation and emotion are all energy phenomena. A new generation of scientific researchers and medical practitioners is focusing on Life Energy.

What is needed—and what may be at hand already but unrecognized—is a comprehensive approach to energy medicine that moves us beyond both ancient spiritual healing concepts, and mechanistic scientific dogma, to an understanding of an actual tangible, physical, measurable and usable Life Energy. So far this has eluded science and medicine. In large part, this is because most human beings have lost their connection with Nature.

Our distant ancestors were intimately connected to Nature in daily life and felt part of the natural cycles of the planet and the universe. In our technological society, that bond is almost completely severed. In general, the vast majority of men and women do not feel the Life Energy moving in their bodies, do not perceive the energy in other living things and the environment, and so do not feel their energetic connection with Nature. This fact is a great obstacle to understanding and studying the Life Energy, as well as using it practically.

What Is A Worldview?

A worldview is not merely a collection of unrelated beliefs. Rather, it is a system of beliefs that are intertwined, interrelated and interconnected. Prof. Richard Dewitt, author of Worldviews, says that these beliefs are “interconnected in something like the way pieces of a jigsaw puzzle are interconnected.” In one sense, each person has her or his own set of beliefs or worldview. But we are looking at the larger worldview we share, which some call our “consensus reality.”

Each era has its worldview, with core and peripheral beliefs, that it mistakenly thinks is reality when it is really only a model of reality. And many of the basic “facts” supporting these worldviews are not facts at all but are, instead, beliefs. It turns out that we believe what we do largely because of the worldview we hold. Not all beliefs are of equal value. Peripheral elements of a worldview can be let go of without difficulty (e.g., until recently, there were nine planets in the solar system, now there are eight). But core elements cannot be removed without changing the whole system of beliefs (e.g., Earth is not the center of the solar system).

It is crucial to understand precisely the basic beliefs of our current worldview in order to see clearly the consequences of this picture of reality. Core beliefs are intertwined with most of the other beliefs in the system and change only under great pressure.

And it is equally critical to communicate clearly the key insights of the emerging worldview so that we can see how this new consciousness can solve the crises we face and prevent others from occurring. There is always powerful resistance to the acceptance of new core elements in a changing picture of our reality.

Life Energy and a New Worldview

Life Energy is a core belief that stirs up much opposition from contemporary scientists. The worldview of Western mechanistic materialism rejects the concept of a Life Energy as superstition, primitive animism, or vitalism, all views long ago surpassed as useful descriptions of nature by physics and biochemistry.

Those with a spiritual or metaphysical worldview generally embrace the concept of a Life Energy, life force, vital energy or "God." But these thought systems invariably place Life Energy in a parallel realm "beyond" the physical world in some kind of immaterial or spiritual plane. To them, Life Energy is not physical in nature.

Mechanistics and metaphysics both agree that there is no Life Energy present in the physical world of our senses. And both agree that this energy is not objectively demonstrable or knowable through scientific experiment or through our five senses.

The mechanist-vitalist debate dominated Western medicine at the beginning of the 20th century and, for nearly 100 years, it has seemed that vitalism was soundly defeated. But now, in the early 21st century, the debate has flared up again. It appears that the concept of a Life Energy or a vital force may be supported not only by the majority of people and a wide range of integrative practitioners and healers, but also, by credible scientific research. The evidence being gathered is convincing even some conventional medical practitioners and scientists to re-think their objections to the existence of a physical Life Energy.

The very process of coming to a practical understanding of the reality of Life Energy could bring about a transition from our present mechanistic-metaphysical worldview to a picture of reality that is fundamentally different. A worldview without Life Energy and one with Life Energy lead to vastly different ways of knowing and living.

The Conference

The morning will be devoted to exciting presentations by our three guest speakers. After lunch, the afternoon will open with a talk by Mindshift co-founders Trish Corbett and Michael Mannion about the nature and importance of worldviews. After their talk, we will gather in small groups for an interactive session in which we will work together to answer a serious question: How would we structure our major social institutions if we came from a worldview of interconnectedness instead of a worldview of separateness? Our guest speakers, and some speakers from past Mindshift conferences, will join us at these conversational tables.

At the completion of the interactive session each group will report to the audience on the ideas they explored and the conclusions they came to about shaping a new science, medicine, spiritual practice, government, education, business and other vital areas of life.

The day will conclude with a panel discussion with the presenters and an audience Q&A session with the speakers.

Our Exciting Speakers

Dr. Ron A. Bryan Dr. Ron A. Bryan has been Professor of Physics at Texas A&M University from 1973 to the present. He has also been working in frontier science for decades, combining the tools of science with other ways of knowing to explore anomalous phenomena.

Dr. Bryan is interested in the possibility that distant healing, remote viewing, chi and other such phenomena are actually mediated by a physical field, not unlike the electromagnetic field, but one which does not weaken over long distances and is not impeded by obstructions like mountains, oceans, or even time translations. Dr. Bryan has proposed an experiment to look for such a higher-dimensional field.

For Dr. Bryan, the Life Energy is not electromagnetic in nature. It is crucial to understand that the electromagnetic field and the proposed Life Energy field are not the same. This insight is at the root of the new worldview that is emerging. It leads to a conclusion with far-reaching implications and consequences: The electromagnetic field is the informational energy of matter. The higher-dimensional field is the energy of life.

The Conference Presentations

The M-Field and The Energy of Life:
A Scientific Hypothesis
Ron A. Bryan, PhD

Several serious investigators have conjectured that there are fields that link all matter, non-living as well as living. Robert Monroe reports on an M-Field that can be modulated by human thought. Seth (or Jane Roberts) tells of “EE units” that carry energy and emotion and likewise affect all matter. Rupert Sheldrake hypothesizes a morphogenetic field that conveys skills learned by animals in one locale to similar animals in a distant locale. Swejen Salter speaks of a five-dimensional life-energy field which links all matter, living and non-living, in all space-time.

Dr. Bryan proposes that these are all aspects of a single field that he calls the M-field. In his presentation, he will describe a proposed experiment to test for this field, namely, one in which an individual, through conscious intent alone, causes a single electron to reverse the direction in which it is pointing. This has significant scientific, philosophical and practical implications for us all.

Experiencing Energy Medicine As Physician and Patient
Conny Huthsteiner, MD

Exciting research is underway into the medical uses of energy in healing. Laser light, infrared light, sound waves, magnetic stimulation, low grade electrical stimulus and orgone energy ( i.e., biologically-based life energy, as described by Dr. Wilhelm Reich) have all been shown to have healing effects. There is also attention being paid to the relationship of certain of these energy sources to the onset of illness and disease. Scientists are learning more about how biological tissue is significantly impacted by the radiation that surround us.

Dr. Conny Huthsteiner, M.D., who has studied and worked with orgone energy in her practice as a psychiatrist and physician, will discuss recent research and news in these various arenas, with a particular focus on orgone energy and its relationship to other energy forms. She will also address the role of consciousness and energetic patterning in healing.

Intelligent Energy
Beverly Rubik, PhD

Dr. Rubik will tell us about her exciting research into a form of energy that seems to go beyond that of electromagnetism, carries information essential to life, is directed by conscious intent, and may be fundamental to life itself.

She will illustrate her presentation with specific examples from her research and that of others, which indicate the existence of such an energy. Dr. Rubik will also discuss the relationship between this energy and the biofield, the organizing field underlying each organism that is hypothesized to be the overarching regulator of life. In her view, we are not dealing with just energy, but with an intelligent energy that is responsive to and directed by consciousness. This profound insight is not yet part of conventional Western science.

Worldviews and Social Change:
Love and Interconnectedness
Trish Corbett and Michael Mannion

Trish Corbett and Michael Mannion will give a presentation that focuses on worldviews. In their talk, Trish and Michael will examine the core elements of our present Western model of reality; their impact on how we live our lives; and the importance of the concept of Life Energy in the new worldview that is now emerging. They will create a new context in which to better understand who we are and what we need to do to create a life-positive world.

For centuries, under the sway of a mechanistic worldview, we have believed that we are essentially separate beings. But we now know that we are all deeply interconnected. Today, science is confirming the correct understanding of many mystics and indigenous peoples about our interconnectedness. All life is interdependent and interpenetrating. Wholeness pervades all existence and is the key to self and world understanding. This is in sharp contrast to the mechanistic-materialist picture of reality in which everything in nature is separate.

There are new developments today in science and society that make it possible for Love to become the organizing principle of our lives. What would science, religion, medicine, government, and education look like if Love was their guiding force? How can we solve the many life-threatening problems that confront us while simultaneously creating new life-positive ways of living personally and as a community? Trish and Michael remind us that Love calls us to a higher vision, one with the potential to guide us in making positive choices regarding our personal and social existence.

The Wisdom of the Chakras

with Ellen Tadd

Clairvoyant Counselor, Lecturer, Author
October 27 at 7 pm

Ellen Tadd is a gifted clairvoyant counselor, lecturer and instructor. Her new book, The Wisdom of the Chakras--Tools for Navigating the Complexity of Life, is based on her own observation, not on reading books on the subject. Whenever she looked at people, she also saw the seven energy centers emanating from them. In her talk, Ellen will share with us what she has learned from her clairvoyance and from her guides from the spiritual realm.

She will show how the chakra system functions in everyday life; how our thoughts, words, and actions affect this system; and how the chakras shape us. We will also hear about practical tools--easily integrated into daily life--that can help us to heal each chakra and so attain the alignment that she believes is the basis of a healthy and spiritual life. During this exciting evening, we may find answers for such questions as:
  • Why do I feel love but often find myself unable to express it?
  • Why do I commit myself to an endeavor “from the heart” but again and again wind up disenchanted?
  • Why do I feel confident and powerful within myself but become frightened when I try to realize our potential?
Copies of Ellen's new book will be for sale after her talk.

President, EI Skills Group; Founder, HR Power Associates

Admission: $65
For Information on Sliding Scale Admission or Bartering,
Email susan@eiskills.com

We are living in a time of rapidly accelerating change and increasing complexity. We are inundated with emotional messages that are targeted at us to manipulate us and affect the basic aspects of our lives, such as the foods we eat, the work we do, the relationships we have, and the leaders we vote for. How we manage our emotional lives is vital to our health.

We will also learn how emotional intelligence can be measured and, more importantly, how one's emotional intelligence abilities can be increased for optimal outcomes. This has led many people to experience enhanced states of higher consciousness and increased positive vibration.

The workshop is divided into two sections, with a break for lunch in between:

PART ONE:
  • Introduction to the relevant research literature pertaining to the value of emotional intelligence and how the scope of EI affects higher consciousness in our rapidly changing world.
  • Experiential skill-building through engaging exercises in the areas of emotional identification, using emotions, understanding emotions, and emotional regulation for optimal outcomes for self and influence with others.

PART TWO:
  • Work through a challenging situation by using our unique emotional blueprint involving such questions as What emotions are you and others experiencing? How are these emotions directing and impacting thinking? What caused these emotions and how might they change? How do you manage your emotions and the emotions of others?
  • Learn to have you think about emotions, think with emotions, discern emotions, feel emotions, influence others to feel emotions and to build your self-awareness around the emotions (both overt and subtle) which you elicit and feel for more effective outcomes.

Each participant will leave the workshop with a do-able and immediate action plan for continued development.

Susan A. Kornacki is the President of EI Skills Group and founder of HR Power Associates. INTEGRAL POLARITY PRACTICE
Contemplative explorations in spirit,
relationship, and compassionate activism

A workshop lead by John Kesler
Suggested Donation: $25-$75

Integral polarity practice (IPP) is a meditation and awareness practice developed by John Kesler. It is grounded in the Big Mind voice dialog process, and has integrated elements from ego development theory and integral polarity work inspired by tantric theory. IPP is also informed by a number of Eastern and Western traditions including John’s own Mormon tradition. In this workshop John will lead us in a sequence of group activities that give voice to a range of archetypal polarities (energies, virtues, and transcendent resonances) that supports psychic integration and spiritual growth. IPP can be practiced to support inner exploration and growth, ethical relationship, en-spirited activism, and civic engagement. Ken Wilber the contemporary philosopher who has perhaps the most comprehensive grasp of the traditions of both East and West said "There is nobody doing more leading-edge work on the integration of Eastern and Western approaches to consciousness and growth than John Kesler."

John is a founding member of the Integral Spiritual Center and was one of the first to be certified as a large group facilitator in the Big Mind process by Zen master, Genpo Roshi, the founder of the process. The Big Mind process enables a person to access non-dual awareness or big mind and other transcendent states of awareness through an application of voice dialogue, a Jungian therapeutic technique. IPP makes no assertions about ultimate reality or that it is an exclusive path, but rather IPP provides a rich awareness and meditative practice which can complement any approach to life or spiritual practice.

THE AGE OF ENTANGLEMENT
When Quantum Physics Was Reborn

A Talk by Author Louisa Gilder

Although about one-third of the world’s economy depends on quantum mechanics to operate, most of us know so little about it that it still sounds like science fiction to a great many people.

Entanglement is a fundamental process in quantum physics that Albert Einstein dubbed “spooky action at a distance.” In a 1935 paper, Einstein predicted that such a phenomenon existed. But it was not until 1964 that Irish physicist John Bell published a ground-breaking paper that established theoretically the phenomenon of entanglement. And it wasn’t until the experiments of John Clauser in the 1970s and French physicist Alain Aspect in the 1980s that the reality of entanglement was established in the lab.

Ms. Gilder, a graduate of Dartmouth College, is a wonderful speaker who has written a great book. The New York Times called The Age of Entanglement "a sparkling, original book" and it was one of only five science books listed among their Notable Books of 2009. Science described it as “witty, charming, and accurate.” And Nature has said it is “a delightfully unconventional history.” Best-selling author Matt Ridley wrote that Ms. Gilder’s book is so well-written that it made him feel for a moment that he almost understood quantum mechanics! Ms. Gilder's work has also been praised as “historically sound and seamlessly constructed;” “deep, beautiful and thoroughly original;” and “a movingly human and surprisingly accessible picture of the unveiling of the quantum universe” (Chicago Tribune); We hope you can join us for a fascinating talk that will help make quantum science—and the passionate physicists who created it--more comprehensible and more appreciated.

"Gaia Matrix and Trees of Peace"

Lecture by Peter Champoux

In 1993, Peter Champoux discovered a regionwide geometry in the geographic and spiritual profile of the Northeastern United States. Centered in the hills of western Massachusetts, Gaia Matrix is a revelation of sacred landscape that spans the continent. The sites and lines within the geometry show patterns and cycles of human culture, history and spirit. Cycles have witnessed the outbreak of the American Revolution, westward expansion, the rise of America as a world power, and the emerging wisdom culture- the next cycle of American evolution...

Peter will briefly outline the basics of his gaiagraphic science and art form, 'Earth Rings', "Ley Lines," and "Field Geometry." He will focus on Northampton and its position on an 'earth ring' of spiritual communities centered in Mohawk Trail State Forest, Trees of Peace. The 'Trees of Peace' are mythic centers of a self organizing circle honoring Native Peoples, encircling communities of love, and healing the living memory of the land. The Trees of Peace is a myth of, by, and for the People. Peter Champoux (pronounced shampoo) was born in Holyoke and has been a professional classical stone mason, an environmental artist, self educated geographer, farmer, author (Gaia Matrix), teacher, geomancer, dowser, and speaker.

The Day Wilhelm Reich Met Albert Einstein:
The Story of a Road Not Taken

Michael Mannion
Author and Co-Founder of The Mindshift Institute and the Center for New Knowledge

On January 13, 1941, a young pioneering physician-scientist named Wilhelm Reich went to Princeton, NJ to confer with the most famous scientist in the world, Albert Einstein. This encounter was far more than a meeting of two creative human beings. It was a moment in history when two fundamentally different pictures of reality crossed paths.

The individual personalities of these men were not central to what transpired when they met. Rather, when they got together, two worlds of science collided. Albert Einstein was the leading scientist of the physics of dead matter and dead energy. Wilhelm Reich was the investigator of the emerging science of living matter and life energy, discovered through the investigation of emotions. This struggle between mechanistic science and the science of the living continues to this day.

Our Western culture took the path of Einstein's science and ignored the way opened up by Reich, with consequences that reach deeply into every aspect of our personal and social lives. How would our world look if we had pursued that other path? Join author Michael Mannion for an exploration of this fascinating, little-known story of the road taken--and the road not taken.

Cosmic Superimposition:
How Are We Rooted in Nature?

A Talk by Michael Mannion To Celebrate the Birthday of Wilhelm Reich

At the opening of Cosmic Superimposition, Wilhelm Reich asks "In what manner is man rooted in Nature?" To Reich, a cosmic primordial energy--which he called orgone--is the energy which governs the living and nonliving realms and roots us in Nature.

This cosmic primordial energy is the underlying unity in nature, the common functioning principle in the microscopic, macroscopic and cosmic realms. Human beings, and all living things, are specially organized energy systems. In Cosmic Superimposition, Reich followed the cosmic energy functions from human emotions to astrophysical processes, crossing the age-old barriers that have been erected separating the bioenergetic and astrophysical realms.

Reich was not understood in his day, but over the last 60 years, the flow of scientific development has been in the direction he pioneered. Join us for a fascination exploration of a new view of the universe and our place in it.

Friday Night
Silent Film Festival:

The Last Command

Directed by Josef Von Sternberg

Josef von Sternberg is one of the great filmmakers in the history of the cinema. He is credited with creating the screen persona of the internationally-acclaimed actress Marlene Dietrich in such classic films as The Blue Angel, Morocco and Shanghai Express. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for Morocco and Shanghai Express.

His silent film, The Last Command, is one of the great films of its era. The actor Emil Jennings won the first ever Academy Award for Best Actor for his starring role in the film. He plays a down-and-out character actor in Hollywood who once had been the head of the Russian Czar's Imperial Army. A Soviet filmmaker has come to Hollywood to make a movie about the Russian Revolution and discovers the former high-ranking officer picture in the head-shots of actors he is reviewing for parts in the film. He immediately recognizes the former officer --and casts him as himself in the film-within-a film.

It is a tale of revolution, patriotism, love and betrayal that presents us with complex characters and offers no pat, easy solutions. It is also one of the best movies about the Hollywood system of making movies. Von Sternberg's creation of a film-within-a-film is brilliant.

We hope you can join us for an exciting movie and great conversation afterwards--all with free pizza!

The Infinite Universe of Giordano Bruno

On February 17, 1600, the Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno was burned alive at the stake by the Inquisition for his revolutionary and visionary ideas. We honor his life and great contributions to human progress this evening on the 410th anniversary of his death.

Many who know of Bruno's work see him as an Hermetic occult "magus." This view was promulgated by Frances A. Yates in her book Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition. However, Bruno may be more correctly understood as a scientific thinker whose brilliant writings helped shape the "new science" of the late 1500s and early 1600s, at the beginning of the scientific tradition that dominates our era.

In 1584, Bruno wrote a brilliant book, On the Infinite Worlds and Universe, that is in many ways still ahead of the times. Before the invention of the telescope, Bruno knew that the stars were suns and that these suns had planets orbiting them. Further, he understood that many of these planets had life on them, including intelligent life.

Today, 425 years later, Western astronomers are just finding the planets around those stars. And they are still debating whether any of these planets harbor life. Astrophysicists and cosmologists are now trying to answer key questions that Giordano Bruno addressed four centuries ago, such as, Is the universe infinite or finite? Is it eternal? Is there but one or countless universes?

We hope you can join us for an examination of the work of a man whose courageous teachings about life shook the worldview of his day at its foundations and led to his ignominious death.

DVD: The Lure of Being and Becoming

With James O'Dea, Lecturer
Former President, Institute of Noetic Sciences

It is obvious to increasing numbers of people that many social systems are now collapsing at an accelerating rate. We seem to be in the last stages of this chapter of the human story. Our illusions are breaking down. The "matrix" we are living in is being revealed as having no reality to it any longer. But how do we get out of the matrix? James O'Dea believes that being is the path through the matrix.

Join us for an inspiring talk by a profound and engaging speaker who has experienced both the intense brutality and the deep compassion of human beings. His life has taught him that no matter how dark it gets, we cannot stop there. We all have something to contribute to the creation of the next phase of human evolution on our journey together here on Earth.

James O'Dea is a Fellow of the Institute of Noetic Sciences and was its president until recently. His work now encompasses social healing, conscious evolution, spiritual renewal, visionary activism and collective story-telling. At present, James is collaborating with the Global Systems Initiative in Washington DC; doing international depth reconciliation work with Israeli and Palestinian psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers; and participating in peace work in Northern Ireland. He was formerly with Amnesty International and the Seva Foundation.

In March 2010, his book Creative Stress: A Path for Evolving Souls Living through Personal and Planetary Upheaval will be released. For more information about James, visit his website.

KABBALAH AND EXPANDED CONSCIOUSNESS

Join us for a brief introduction to the use of Kabbalistic meditation for expanding consciousness and to the concept of communication as a means of creating reality. Learn meditation techniques that can help you open your perceptive abilities and gain an understanding of the importance of divine communication.

This event will be led by Joshua Berkowitz who is a professional psychic and spiritual consultant who works with clients to understand the energetic causes of life events and to heal the energetic bodies of unwanted influences. He believes that people can open themselves to the flow of universal tides, both as they go about their daily business and as they relax or work at home.

Josh is a student at UMass, whose academic work has been focused on ancient, esoteric ways of knowing such as Kabbalah. He has read many texts in their original languages, e.g., Hebrew and Aramaic, and has conducted his own investigations into Wicca and Jewish Kabbalah.

Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)®
—Real Change, real easy®

TAT is a simple yet powerful tool for getting "unstuck" from the patterns that prevent us from living happier, healthier lives. It helps to quickly and easily resolve barriers and beliefs that keep us from getting more of what we want out of life.

TAT can help with:
  • negative/limiting beliefs by changing the “story” you tell yourself about who you are and what your future can bring.
  • traumatic/stressful events by eliminating the emotional charge from the event without reliving it.
  • physical health challenges by helping to resolve the underlying emotional issues that contribute to physical dis-ease.

Join me for a discussion about how our beliefs and unconscious assumptions affect what we get out of life and an introduction to a simple and powerful technique that can help you move forward in your life with a greater sense of presence, peace, and joy.

Judy Grupenhoff, MS is a certified TAT Professional. She combines nutritional counseling, Hawaiian healing techniques, and TAT to help individuals make positive lasting change. For more information visit the Power Center Web site or call (413) 427-9738.
